Debra Trappen is one of the founding members of the WomanUP!® movement and the founder of Fire Up!™. She has been in the real estate space since 2002 after relocating to the Pacific Northwest with her husband. She eventually found that instead of selling lists her true passion was in mentoring and training, helping others become their best selves.
In this segment, she talks about moxie–the core values that make a person–and how people can find theirs.
What is moxie?
Moxie is a word that connects with many different generations. And while, in her training sessions, Debra wants to talk about business, she also wants to talk about the humanity of people–their core values and how they live according to those values. Are they in line with their core values or do people need to shift and pivot a little bit so their decisions make them feel good about themselves?
“So, we have the core values piece. We have the cell tank piece, which is doing things that you love, with people you love, serving those you love. And then I move into helping people find their purpose.
That is one of the most interesting conversations with others because they think it’s this huge zen mode moment, right? Like they’re going to have to go on a vision quest when really we’re living it every day. We’re living our purpose.”
Once that’s all lined up, people can leverage who they are in building their businesses.
Debra also has fun activities for her clients that feel overwhelmed and stressed because of the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. She helps them go over their calendars to decide if they’re attending an event either because they want to, because they need to, or because they feel like they need to.
“I truly believe that once we create margin for what matters, that hustle starts to fall to the side, we experience what living our best life means. And you hear things like, I want to live out loud, I want to live on purpose, I want to live on my own terms.”
Real estate professionals are used to working a lot so having resistance to removing items from their calendars or being busy is to be expected. Debra helps them streamline their goals, wants, and needs so they can get over the fear of missing out.
“The fear of missing out really is related to the fact of not actually knowing who your niche is, not knowing really what business you want. And that’s why you fear missing out. Because you fear if you don’t attend that event, you’re going to miss meeting a client.”
The process helps people learn how to say no to the things that will not help them achieve their goals. She says, “when you’re asking to be a part of everything, you have no energy left to attract those beautiful opportunities that you’re seeking.”
The WomanUP!® movement
The WomanUP!® Movement is a California Association of Realtors Initiative that helps women in the real estate industry find mentors and mentees, and people to support both mentors and mentees.
And one of the most important parts is that movement isn’t exclusive to women. In fact, Men are very welcome to join the events and the whole space of empowering women.
“I went to my first WomanUP!® event the other night. And what was so remarkable about it and was so powerful was the fact that there were so many men in the room… we need the men in the room to really understand a woman’s point of view because, for a long time, we’ve been silent on the side.
And the men who were there, they were really strong, very influential men, and these are the guys who are totally getting it and help to really push women up and support women,” Sherrie says.
It’s not a battle of the sexes where only one has to be on top. It’s a collaborative effort to make the field even and more inclusive for everyone.
