Formerly the president and CEO of Seitlin Insurance, BankUnited hired Cornish to become its Florida President in 2014. Banking isn’t a new industry for him either since he has over 29 years of experience across the banking and insurance industries. He held senior leadership roles for SunTrust Bank from 1983 to 2003, served as the President of SunTrust Bank Miami and headed its division for activities in Latin America, served as a Director of ProspX, Inc. and many more. Given his impressive resume and range of accomplishments, it might be surprising to know that Thomas Cornish did not have an easy early life. He was abandoned by his parents in Milwaukee, his foster father suffered from a heart attack, the crime rate in the neighborhood he was living in was high... he was even expelled from high school 16 to 18 times!
